Dave and the Island of Party

Hello my Homies!

I'm back from Trinidad and Tobago in one piece with a few cuts and bruises but at least I’m still walking! I’ve just crossed off something that I have dreamt of doing since I was 11 years old: play in Trinidad's Carnival. The night before the big event was a party called Jouvert.  Beginning at 4am, this was the wildest party I have  ever been a part of.  Within five minutes of arriving, my friends and I each had a bucket containing four liters of melted chocolate poured over our heads.  Thousands of people joined us as we ran over cars and danced on walls and buildings - all while chasing after the music and drink trucks.  Everyone partied till day light, but the painful truth for me and my friend Marty was that the arrival of dawn meant it was time to hose off and go to the first actual day of Carnival.  After meeting our band in the down town core of Port of Spain, we began on our 2 day journey that consisted of nothing but a wild parade of drinking and dancing mixed in with passing tropical rain storms.  Many would agree that 25 000 beautiful women amidst the rain sounds like a pretty good mix.  Not only was this my chance to let loose during my week off, it was also an opportunity to get to see just how hard my dad parties while his sons are off at university.

Over all it was a great trip filled with dancing in Trinidad and surfing in Tobago.  Now I’m starting to save up money for next year’s Carnival experience – I think you should too.

See you there

dave
