Ben Tries A Mustache

Item #73: “Grow a Mustache”

I’ve taken a few stabs at this one and each time I land a little short. Even though my efforts are genuine, I continue to end up with more of a steel wool/dandelion hybrid rather than a proper stache.  I don’t know if it’s the cheese I’m eating or the West Coast weather, but I just can’t seem to sprout the goods.

Will these lil’ speed bumps curb me from my dream of rocking a proper handlebar? Probably. But I was hit with an unexpected resurgence of commitment when I came across a certain “2003 World Beard and Moustache Champion” – Toot Jooslin.  Do you really expect me to hang my head when I have a legend in my corner? The answer, is No.

Just wait till I hit the road Toot, this one’s for you.

Show and Tell

I couldn’t stop thinking about it today and just can’t keep it inside any longer - the list we’ve put up is not a token or a joke, everything you see on that list will be completed. We chose these things because we are passionate about them and have every desire to see each one fulfilled. I’m not asking you to believe me, just to recognize that the script isn’t written yet. I can tell you that it felt damn good to cross #1 off the list Open the Six O’Clock News, and I can tell you that it will feel even better to cross of #100. I have 50 years left to live and expect to be on my 10th list come retirement. I guess what I’m saying is that The Buried Life has taught me that living is a big part of life, and how you live is up to you.

So how about a progress report? I chose some objects from around the office to show you. Each one has something to tell..

These are 3 MiniDV tapes. There are many incredible untold stories on the 50 or so tapes we’re collecting. Everything from street kids & rock concerts, to Tyler Durden & blind dates. The documentary, when it finally airs, will be one for the ages. Good thing you only have to wait until June 1 to start watching weekly episodes!

This is how Duncan gets to the office every morning, and what we kick around during important calls.

The generous crew down at the Victoria Foundation donated 3 great desks to the cause (and a fax machine, a scanner, cookies, cups, pencils, pens, paper, folders and more). Believe me - they rock. Check out their site for more info..

Yup. Just a recycling bin, sugar and milk. That’s all she needs.

Two important posters. On the left, Paul Hawken - the guru on everything green & socially responsible. He’s coming to town next week. On the right, the Carebearz Auction for Easter Seals, at which The Buried Life Crew will be selling “the completion of a life dream”. You give Easter Seals money, tell us what you want to do, and we make it happen. Simple as pie.

Go here to learn more about the project or to donate. If you want to make a bid at the auction, come to Legends between 7 and 9 pm this Saturday, or send us an email.

41 Days until the 2007 Buried Life Westcoast Tour Begins!

Dodgeball

Canada's biggest dodgeball tournament

Last Saturday I competed in the biggest dodge ball tournament in Canada. This event was outstanding. There were just under 100 teams competing from all around BC. Lumberjacks, denims, dirty pirates, ninja turtles, superheroes, sailors, they were all there being fancy.

My team got off to a quick start winning the first 8 games which put us in the playoffs in top seed.

Unfortunately we got over excited and planned for the long haul eating many power bars and consuming energy drinks. We then lost our first playoff game and were immediately sent home.

In retrospect the energy was a good thing, without it I don’t know we would have made it through the two and half hours of ferocious sobbing. It’s funny how things work out.

Doppelganger

Right now we are  debating whether to power our RV/bus  with diesel or bio-diesel.  For those of you who don’t know, bio-diesel is an alternative fuel made to burn cleaner than regular bio-diesel. It’s kind of like corn oil, but more flammable.  We want to use it so that our tour can be environmentally friendly.  The problem is that we will not be able to fill up at any gas station – there are very few bio-diesel gas stations in Canada and in the US.

If that’s not stressful enough…I think Duncan is trying to take my place on the team. -Dave
