Put This In Your Toilet

Filed Under: Uncategorized, news — Barry De'Lyfe @ 11:09 pm

brick

Ben and I went to a “Clothing Exchange for Global Change” last night and, after paying $5 to get in, had our pick at tables upon tables of nice clothing. The event was a fundraiser for Unicef and supposed to bring attention to over-consumption - it was a cool gig.

On the topic of overconsumption I’d like to offer everyone out there a great $ saving / earth saving tip: put a brick in your toilet. Putting one in the tank of your toilet will mean that not only will less water be needed on each flush, but if you ever got trapped in your bathroom and needed to escape, you have a brick to use. It’s sheer brilliance.

An Email From Lisa

We have finally begun to catch up on the heaps of wonderful emails we received on the road during this past Tour, and there are soooo many good ones! Thank you everyone for your mail, here’s my favorite today:

“Hi, I heard the guys on Jackie and Bender this morning and I wanted to say thanks for doing these things for people.

Nearly three years ago I had the kind of colon cancer that the surgeons looks at you with pity in their eyes. I’m still here and I’m cancer free. I used to live a different life, making sure others had what they needed before my own needs were met.

I have finished many of the obligations that kept me bound to that life and have given myself permission to pursue my own dreams. I am learning everything I can about making independent films. I’m starting to write scripts. I’m volunteering on small film projects to get experience, I’m doing volunteer work for a local public television in exchange for class time learning everything I can about camera, editing, lighting and whatever else comes along.

My wish would be to have a HD Digital Camera and the Final Pro editing program for a MAC. I know you can’t really get me these things, but it’s made me really happy just to say it. thanks for your time.

Sincerely, Lisa

Lisa, that is so awesome that you are striving so powerfully towards your goals. And what creativity! Volunteering in exchange for film classes, I love it. You’re an inspiration.

Send us your address and we’ll mail you Final Cut Pro. If anyone has an extra HD Camera lying around, please let Lisa know.

Can’t wait to see your first film, Ben

p.s. Lisa - read the next blog. Just by emailing us and writing down your goals, you’re on course to be 10x more successful than your average bear. Ha! (Take that average bears).

Apparently Life Lists Equal Money.

I came upon this little gem today thought I should share it. According to a Harvard Business School study, written goals can translate into earnings of 10 times more than those who fail to establish goals or put their goals in writing. In the study, Harvard graduates were asked if they had goals and, if so, were they written down? Three percent (3%) had written their goals down, eleven percent (11%) had goals but had not written them down and eighty-six (86%) had not yet established goals.

Twenty years later, they polled the same group. The 11% who had goals (but not written down) were making twice as much as the 86% who had no goals. However, the 3% who had written down their goals were making 10 times more than the average of all the other graduates…and 98% of all the wealth resided with that same 3%! Snap.

Number 14, Grow a Moustache and Mo-vember

man4

Not sure if you all recall, but back in Idaho Ben and Dave had a little competition to see who would be the first to cross off #14: Grow a Moustache. After a fierce three week battle, they both lost. While their growth attempt was a chance to assert their manhood, this month many men are following suit. But their growth isn’t about manhood, it’s about MOVEMBER. This is an annual thing where men around the world grow out their ’stache every November to bring attention to prostate cancer. Looks like Dave’s bringing a whole lotta attention. Check it out the site..

Number 60: Go Paragliding

Filed Under: list, news, tour — Barry De'Lyfe @ 4:31 am

While the four of us were gallivanting in Sun Valley a few weeks ago, we were lucky enough to hook up with some gents who could help us cross off #60 on our list, Go Paragliding.

We met them at the bottom of a mountain and found out quickly that the real test was getting to the TOP alive, rather than making it to the bottom safe and sound. The road we drove up was sketchiest dust-buster I have ever seen - at one point we had to traverse over a 2×4 plank with our right wheels perched over a gap in the road…

Needless to say, we made it to the top and, as soon as Duncan stopped crying, we suited up to jump right off the mountain we had just recklessly climbed.

This is how it works: You strap into a large harness with your parachute behind you and run as fast as you can down the side of the mountain. Then, before you can say, “Duncan, we’re going to be okay, please stop crying”, your feet are no longer hitting the ground and you realize your flying.

The feeling you get while paragliding is like nothing else I have ever experienced - it is definitely the closest I have ever come to flying. It is so quiet, calm and liberating that all you want to do once you crash into the dirt at the bottom is drive straight back up that rickshaw death path and jump off the mountain again.

Jonnie says that he has been looking for his “thing” for some time now and believes he has finally found it. Dave paraglided with no pants on (apparently flying wasn’t liberating enough), Ben lost his shoe but said it was worth it and Duncan finally stopped crying. Yes, this is definitely something we all recommend - close your computer and go jump off a mountain!
