More Photos From Number 71: Take Kids on a Shopping Spree

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 1:37 am

For those of you who may have missed the blog (you can read it here), a few weeks ago in Seattle, with the help of the Levi’s Foundation, we were able to take 4 kids from the Childrens Cancer Lifeline on a shopping spree at Toys R Us. We couldn’t have chosen 4 more deserving kids and it was an afternoon we will never forget.

When we posted about our memorable day, many of you wanted to see some more photos, so here you go..

Thank you everyone who helped make this happen. To the kids who ran around the store with us, your bravery touched us - that day will stick with us for a long time.

Social Change meets Social Entertainment

Filed Under: Uncategorized, helping out, news, spontaneous — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 12:17 am

4real4.jpg

I would like to introduce you to Sol. I had the privilege of sitting down with this extraordinary man for a quick meeting…I ended up leaving 4 hours later.

Sol’s Story: Sol spent his younger years (he is still very young) in the music industry launching record labels and saw influential artists such as The Rascals and K’OS sign their first record deals.

Then one day, in the midst of his peaking career, he stopped dead in his tracks. He looked around and realized there was something missing… Meaning. Sol quit his record label and started searching.

It wasn’t long before he found it. Introducing 4Real, a television show molded around the concept of combining social change with social entertainment.

4Real is truly here to change the world, a philanthropic dream bent on appearing in the ‘prime-time’ spot between the Hills and America’s Next Top Model, and why not? Why shouldn’t “doing something good” be just as entertaining as the popular meaningless drab?

4Real brings celebrities to causes around the world and tells their stories raw and real. From Cameron Diaz and Mos Def to Joaquin Phoenix and the Red Hot Chilli peppers, 4real is connecting them to young leaders who, under extreme circumstances, are affecting change. Real stories, real change.

With stories like this, it was no surprise that TV networks quickly came-a-knocking. However, 4real refused to sign - Sol said the deals simply weren’t right. That was until CTV approached him and agreed to offer a very generous piece of the shows profits to the issues they were fighting to talk about.

Just like that, new precedents are set and conventional business agreements are thrown out the window.

It’s about time to change to world.

Keep fighting the good fight Sol, you’re an inspiration.

TBL Radio and a Sick Little Brother…

Filed Under: Uncategorized, spontaneous — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 1:53 am

As we had so much fun doing radio shows this tour and because people keep telling us we have faces for radio, what ever that means, we are currently exploring hosting a live radio show off our website. Users will be able to call in and comment, or listen silently to all our witty banter. Either way, stay tuned as it should be coming soon to a broadcast near you.

In other news: Two days ago Jonnie and Ben decided to stay up all night working on an important letter. The next day Jonnie woke up sick as a dog. Feeling sorry for the guy, I asked my mom what we could do for little Jonnie. She suggested getting him some soup. I thought this was a great idea and brought it to the rest of the gang, they too thought it was a great idea but reminded me that we were on a tight budget.

Still feeling sorry for little Jonnie, I decided that drawing a picture of us giving Jonnie soup was somehow just as meaningful. Get well soon little brother…Jonnie's soup

New Website Coming Soon! Your Thoughts, Please.

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 11:16 pm

Now that we have safely arrived home, the four of us have much work to do in order to share our mission and the question, “What do you want to do before you die?” with the rest of the world.  We were able to reach a total of 54 countries via the ol’ world wide web during this years Tour (big ups to India!  Our #1 visitor overseas, we love you!)….however, that still leaves roughly 140 countries yet to be reached.

One of the ways we’d like to bridge this gap is to revamp theburiedlife.com and get advise from the people who matter the most, the people who come and support us everyday…YOU!  We have some big ideas of our own, but we would really like to hear what you have to say.

So please, take a second to peruse the site and let us know what you think (i.e. what drives you crazy about our site).  Don’t be shy - What would you like to see, where would you like to see it and how much of it would you like to see?

A few of the things we are working on:  More functional Pics and Vids pages, a page with stories of all the people we’ve helped since The Buried Life began and a completely new, revolutionary, time bending social network.

Sharpen your pencils and tear away!

Sincerely,

TBL.

The Computer Drive Continues!!

 Under a Rock

For those of you who have been living under a rock (or perhaps living in a large rock castle without a very good internet signal) and missed last week’s blog, we are hosting a computer drive for an elementary school in LA that we taught at back in September. The school has very few computers and the kids are fantastic so we’re rustling up all the dow we can to get them a few more computers.

So Here’s The Big News! A $50 donation came in the mail today which brings our total to 2.5 Million Dollars!! Oh, wait… that’s not right. We’re actually ‘officially’ at $130 which means we’re 1/8 of the way to our goal of $900 for another computer!

If you’d like to make a donation, visit BountyUp and you can add to the total with PayPal, any major credit card or with a light saber.

Never Again

WW2

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

-In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In honour of Remembrance Day we would like to send our sincere thanks to the troops that fought for our freedom during World War 1 and 2. Their noble sacrifice so many years ago has allowed us the liberty we so enjoy today and for that we say thank you.

We also send a promise to the brave men and women that gave their lives that that the torch will not be dropped. We now face environmental crisis, corporate excess, and slavery through globalization but I am confident that today’s young people can stand strong and do as you did to bring peaceful ideals into the world.

To all the 7 to 27 year olds out there, we pose this question: What Are We Going To Do Before We Die? What issues will define our generation? Which challenges will we choose to overcome together? AIDS, The Climate Crisis, poverty, nuclear proliferation, race and sexual prejudice - the list goes on. Together we can fix these problems, if we chose to.
