Number 8 Ride a Bull

#8: Ride a Bull

Penn vs Lingwood

With the end of 2007 in sight, I started mulling over some of the most memorable moments of this year’s Tour. Idaho popped into my head, more specifically, the day that Dave and Duncan made the step from boys to men. The two of them squared off in a ring to see who could stay on a 1200 lb bull the longest. With one tequila fueled evening of mechanical bull riding and a 2 hour lesson from PBR pro Justin Gentry under their belts, they entered the ring…

Duncan made it 8 seconds

With the first round finished and Duncan on top, Dave looked to settle the score. He asked to ride one of the longhorns - a bull about 300 lbs heavier than the first bessy and a WHOLE LOT meaner. This bull didn’t mess around, here’s the play by play in real time (2 seconds). Mrs. Lingwood, please pretend this is not your son.

Dave agrees

Dave had been trying to get on a bull since we dreamed up this mission 2 years ago. Now it’s finally off his list.

Big thanks to Justin Gentry for that epic day on the ranch

Our man Sol’s show, 4real, is airing tonight at 7:30pm on CTV. You gotta take a look. This kind of social entertainment is going to change the world.

First episode Sol teams up with Jaoquin Pheonix and heads deep into the Brazil rain forests to meet this revolutionary chief Tashka Yawanawa whom at 26 became the youngest chief in Yawanawa history; taking responsibility for over 600 people and 90,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest.

Check out Sol chatting about the adventure on Buried Life Radio December 14th.

Number 89 Experience Zero Gravity

#89: Experience Zero Gravity

Newly released photos from #89 on the List!

While in LA, we drove up to what looked like a massive grain cellar where we were told you could fly. Inside the cellar was a plexi-glass room with a massive turbine spinning underneath. As we walked up to the room we saw someone spinning and flipping around like he was in the Matrix… that’s when we started to lose our minds.

#89: Experience Zero Gravity

Before we jumped in we saw Mr. Matrix go for a rip

Still not believing our eyes, we zipped up our ‘beastie boys’ flying suits and stood by to jump in. This wind tunnel pumped enough air to keep anyone airborne as long as they dared to fly. We had been waiting for this moment a long time.

Jonnie flying for the first time

This is how it works: You stand in your flying suit and goggles in the doorway of the wind tunnel feeling the fierce winds howling upwards inches from you. Then, with your hands over your head, you fall forward (face first) into the tunnel and the next thing you know you’re flying.

#89: Experience Zero Gravity

Dave having an semi-enjoyable time

The feeling you get when you fall into the tunnel is difficult to put into words. It’s like falling a million miles per second with no fear while being able to yell at your friends. It was the closest thing to flying that I have ever experienced. We each had three rounds of two minute sessions in the tunnel and each second was more fun than the last.

Ben politely saying, ‘excuse me Dave, but I believe it’s my turn’

We were able to pull this off with the help of Current TV who tagged along for a few of our adventures with their camera crew. Current TV (Al Gore’s network which has just won an Emmy) is airing an episode on The Buried Life in January. As soon as it is released we will let you know.

Post-flight with Angela from Current TV

Next time you see a grain cellar, take a second look. It very well may be a great spot to go flying… Big thanks to Angela from Current TV and Perris Valley Skydiving. -ben

Happy Valley Elementary

Big flexes after speaking at Happy Valley Elementary

We were invited to Happy Valley Elementary School in Victoria last week to chat with the kids about some of our adventures and the power of writing a list. Turns out these grade 5-7’s had some of the best list items we had ever heard! ‘Become a famous physicist and soccer player’, ‘Become a marine biologist and a fashion designer’, ‘Go to Nevada’… these guys couldn’t be stopped! We had a great time with you guys and were extremely impressed with all of your young ambition. We hope to be back soon, although I’m sure you won’t have to look too far to see Dave playing teatherball with his new friend at recess. -ben
