Filed Under: Blogroll, news — Barry De'Lyfe @ 1:03 pm

The Montreal Gazette ran an article on their front page about a few lads going after their list and helping others do the things they want to do before they die. Sounds pretty cool, check it out HERE.

4th time #40 has been crossed off! Who’d have thunk it, just proves anything is possible.

What do you want to do before you die? Post it HERE, then go for it. -TBL

Dave Gets Bootylicious

Filed Under: Blogroll, news, spontaneous — Barry De'Lyfe @ 12:17 pm

Salsa

dave = salsa

I’m not a golfer; It’s not my thing. So when I set off to Southern California this winter, I turned to google for help. What I found was the answer to a life long dream: a four day intensive salsa workshop.

Salsa

also salsa, but different

Our incredible coach, Edie the Salsa Freak, told us guys that we were to lead our female partners through every move, “so don’t let them get bored”. With all the responsibility, I got nervous. The girls had to trust us not to drop them but it’s really hard to concentrate on both the new dance steps and controlling your partner. Plus, the ladies were all wearing sexy little dance outfits because salsa is supposed to be “a sensual dance.”

Salsa

“the salsa freak”

After many miss-steps, trips, and a couple awkward glances, I nailed it. Now I feel like I’ve learned one of the most useful skills in the world. If you have any interest in salsa, I highly recommend trying a class; you get to spin girls all over the floor and shake your hips and feel “sensual”. Although I don’t have the best moves yet, if anyone out there wants to practice, I’m down. wink ;)

A chance for us to stand up for something we believe in.

Filed Under: helping out, news, spontaneous — Barry De'Lyfe @ 11:46 pm

Hey friends, sorry we’ve been absent for the last couple days. We’ve had a busy couple days. We have two stories we’d like share with you:

First, there is a possibility Ben and Duncan will be leaving on an adventure tomorrow. Where they are going, they cannot tell, but they will say it is down South. They will be filming it of course, so stay tuned.

Our other story is something you may or may not have seen in the recent news. It’s the story of the dolphin killing fields Taiji, Japan. Here it is for those of you that haven’t:

Every year in the Japanese fishing village of Taiji, fishermen round up and slaughter hundreds and even thousands of dolphins. After driving pods of dolphins into shallow coves, the fishermen kill the dolphins with spears and machetes. This brutal massacre — the largest scale dolphin kill in the world — goes on for six months of every year. Even more shocking, the captive dolphin industry is an accomplice to the kill.

In recent years thanks to a committed few the truth about the Taiji Dolphin slaughter is now going out to millions of people. This group of committed surfers, actresses, filmmakers converge on the city of Taiji and participate in whats called a “paddle out”. A paddle out is a surfers’ ritual/ceremony which takes place when a fellow surfer dies. Everyone paddles out past the surf line and forms a circle holding hands while praying for the departed. It’s a beautiful thing to watch.

Next year we would like to go and “paddle out” for the dolphins. We can only hope this madness is ended before then.

Here’s a clip of Hayden Panetteire (from the tv show Heros) participating in this years “paddle out”.

FYI: The letter for Mark (see last blog) is on its way. With any luck he will get it in the next couple days.

Another Note For Mark

Filed Under: Blogroll, helping out — Barry De'Lyfe @ 8:54 pm

Mark

Mark, after sprucing up his apartment

Just received this touching note on Marks blog..

Dear Mark!!

No matter what the doctors and the tests may say DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
Miracles still happens today. In May of this year I will celebrate 5
years of breast cancer survival. I was given 50% chance to survive. I
just went through a devastating divorce, found myself penniless, but I
decided that I did not want to die. I told my doctors and others that
I still had people to see, places to go,and dreams not yet realized.
So I went on with my life, went through a mastectomy, along with
chemotherapy and radiation. I also continued on living by going to
college, thinking positive thoughts and claiming positive affermation.
Most importantly i put my trust and faith in God. In May (just few
months from now) I will graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work
and with minors in Italian and Psychology as well. I just celebrated a
birthday in November and I am now 54 years young. :-)

I recall one particualr morning right after my surgery. I woke up
around 2:00 a.m. in terror. I thought and said to myself,”I am going
to die… and… NO I WANT TO LIVE.” As I made that statement I felt a
complete peace coming upon me. I fought the fear and doubt with faith
in God and negative thinking with positive ones.

Mark, you can make it!!!!! You are going to be in my daily prayers and
I am standing with you believing for a MIRACLE!!

Live Mark and do not die!!! It is not yet your time to go!!

LOVE YOU!!!!!

Freda

Thank you so much Freda, we’ll make sure this letter gets delivered to Mark in person.   If you missed Mark’s story, your can read it Here -TBL

Pic of the Day and Interview with Kare Anderson

Filed Under: Blogroll, news — Barry De'Lyfe @ 12:55 am

Hey Everyone!

Hope you had a great weekend, here’s a little pic of the day for you..

The boys at the Bellagio

TBL blown away by the Bellagio

Above are four happy guys celebrating in front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas after successfully crashing this year’s MTV Music Video Awards with no tickets donning $10 women’s suits (Check out how it all went down HERE.. even I still don’t believe it happened.)

In other news, we recently did a podcast with Kare Anderson from movingfrommetowe.com. Kare’s website illustrates the power of working together and ‘moving from me to we’. We sure had a lot to gab on about in the interview, we continue to learn first hand how much you can accomplish by reaching out others. If it weren’t for the generosity and goodwill of others, The Buried Life wouldn’t exist.. that’s why we like to give back. You can listen to the podcast HERE.

And for all of you who have helped us on our adventure, thank you (and we’re not just saying that because it’s Monday.) -ben

More From Number 77

Filed Under: Blogroll, list, tour — Barry De'Lyfe @ 10:05 pm

Jonnie posted a blog yesterday reminiscing about the magic and mayhem that is Burning Man.  He did a heck of a job describing this unimaginable place but because the experience of Burning Man is nearly impossible to sum up in words, I was compelled to add more pictures.  I give you #77: Burning Man..

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

#77: Go to Burning Man

Hopefully these begin to describe what awaits you.  If you’re looking to travel to another planet, put this on your list.  Tickets just went on sale.  -ben

Flashbacks of Man-Burning

Filed Under: Blogroll, tour — Barry De'Lyfe @ 12:29 pm

Burning Man

biking through the desert at Burning Man

It is winter now, and cold, but the four of us are still reminiscing about our summertime adventure to Burning Man last year - one we made to accomplish #77 on the list. Burning Man, a music festival in Nevada, is a mysterious and fantastical place, where anything goes and it is not odd to see a two story tall (art) dragon drive past you at midnight. Sound crazy? It is. Really crazy. There are few words one can use to describe its bounty, but any modern adventurer looking for a new frontier ought to put it on his or her list. You will not be disappointed..

See This Movie.. Or Die

Filed Under: Blogroll, news — Barry De'Lyfe @ 7:21 pm

Many people have asked us if we were upset to hear that Hollywood was making a movie about ‘our idea’. I don’t know this for certain, but I’m pretty sure that the concept of writing a list of things that you want to do before you die is as old as Aristotle. We didn’t come up with it. What makes us different, if it must be judged, is how we’re doing these things. And, more importantly, why.

If you have a moment this weekend, check out The Bucket List and let us know whatcha think. And, darngonit, write a list!
