one of the best stringed instruments.... Ukulele! seriously.

i have played banjo, guitar, mandolin. Uke's rock my world now. you can play any style, they are small, take 'em anywhere anytime, easy to learn,(i suggest Tenor Uke) can come amplified, or not.

check out the band Kanekoa, particularly their CD "From The Belly of the Demi-God" and their take on the song "Down Under" also any CD by Jake Shimabakura. these two artists take Ukes into the 21st century. you will never go back...

let me know if you get one or need help selecting one...

I think mallet percussion is totally your guys' style...marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, etc. It's awesome once you get it down, goes great in bands of all kinds or on its own, and...chicks dig it!

Most definitely the banjo or dobro – two rockin instruments. I mean, who doesn't want to have a duel with another banjo player?

Try the theremin (look it up if you've never heard of it), there is a global shortage of thereminists in the world and no other instrument I've ever played has gotten so much attention at gigs, plus it's great fun to play and it sounds incredible.
