#23: Learn How to Play an Instrument

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 6:40 pm

it’s getting busy in here!

The site is getting 30 visits a second right now. If shes running a lil slow, we apologize.

In other news: “Learn How To Play an Instrument” is #23 on the list. So far, we’re about halfway to crossing it off. Duncan is learning how to play guitar and I (Jonnie) am learning how to play the piano. Dave and Ben are still looking for their instrument of choice. Any recommendations?

what do you want to do before you die?

I decided in January that #101 on the list should be “Play in a Band.” So, I started a band. We’re called bikini and we make melodramatic pop music for teenagers and people with schoolyard crushes.

We just did a remix of Feist’s 1,2,3,4 too. Check it out HERE

  1. My recomendation is the tuba. I’ve played it for 3 years and I LOVE it.
the only problem would be that you couldn’t play it in your band (which i checked out and absolutley love the remix so i’m adding you on myspace).

    nice : )

  2. I would go for electric guitar, or bass guitar. Very easy to learn. And totally awesome to rock out on!

  3. The violin, it has a beautiful and unique sound that adds a little twist to your band.

  4. Harmonica. It’s easy and you can take it anywhere.

  5. The Saxophone. A blast to play, and the sound is so rich and beautiful to the ears.

  6. Try the theremin (look it up if you’ve never heard of it), there is a global shortage of thereminists in the world and no other instrument I’ve ever played has gotten so much attention at gigs, plus it’s great fun to play and it sounds incredible.

  7. Most definitely the banjo or dobro – two rockin instruments. I mean, who doesn’t want to have a duel with another banjo player?

  8. Saxaphone all the way!

  10. I think mallet percussion is totally your guys’ style…marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, etc. It’s awesome once you get it down, goes great in bands of all kinds or on its own, and…chicks dig it!

  11. The list in general: haven’t read the whole thing but I strongly believe getting married should be on there!

    Easiest solo instrument: clarinet

  13. one of the best stringed instruments…. Ukulele! seriously.

i have played banjo, guitar, mandolin. Uke’s rock my world now. you can play any style, they are small, take ‘em anywhere anytime, easy to learn,(i suggest Tenor Uke) can come amplified, or not.

check out the band Kanekoa, particularly their CD “From The Belly of the Demi-God” and their take on the song “Down Under” also any CD by Jake Shimabakura. these two artists take Ukes into the 21st century. you will never go back…

let me know if you get one or need help selecting one…
