In Case You Missed It…

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 11:08 pm

In case you missed it this is the teaser-trailer for the new video from our friends at Voleurz. A couple things:

#1: I can say with confidence that I’ve watched enough of these things to know good from bad. This film will be good. Very good. And it was made on a budget. By a bunch of friends (just like every good movie these days).
#2: Dreaming about making snowboard movies was what got Duncan and I into film into the first place, so in some ways this is our roots (I’m still hoping to direct one myself one day). Godbless Whistler Mtn.
#3: This is the surf film I’m most excited to see come out.
#4: This is the documentary I’m most excited to see come out (not quiet yet thou!)

Good news - I just heard from Shawn who told us that his brother had contacted him from Georgia. Shawn’s brother was stationed there when Russia invaded and Shawn hadn’t heard from him since (read story HERE).

Buried Life LA Offices: A Patch of Grass Off Hollywood Boulevard

Hey hey hey. So we’ve been getting a couple emails asking where we’re at and the answer is technically ‘grass’. We’re sitting on grass.

After our attempt to make it to China went under at the last moment this summer, we began searching for a suitable alternative. Thankfully, that alternative found us. (more…)

Thoughts for Shawn’s Brother

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 5:49 pm

This was posted this on The Buried Life Network yesterday:

My brother is in the army. He is in Georgia right now and if you have been watching the news you know that the Russians have invaded Georgia. My brother is a green beret and if you know what the green beret stands for then you know why Im writing this. The green beret is the special forces of the army just like the navy seals of the navy. I havent heard from my brother since the 4th so I dont know if he is okay. There is a great chance that he is under fire right now so please pray for him. -Shawn

Our thoughts are with you and your brother Shawn and so are the thoughts of The Buried Life Community. If you want to reach out to Shawn, his TBL profile is HERE

Our New Friend Kim

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 1:27 pm

Just received an email from 14 year old Kim from South Bend, Indiana. I thought it was so genuine that I’d post it. If you’ve ever lost anyone close to you, this may be worth reading…

Earlier in the week I was looking at my list, and I saw one thing that I didn’t remember writing. It said ‘find out something about my past’. I don’t know where it came from, but then I remembered.
I had written it on Father’s day, which besides the day my dad died, is the day I miss him the most. Or…maybe it’s me missing that I never really had him.
The thing that I’m trying to get to, is that when I read that, it caused me to sort of fall into a lot of thinking…kind of like an epiphany. It was both sad, and needed, because I realized a lot of things I think people realize at all ages.

Duncan’s #67: Learn Photography

Filed Under: news — Ben, Dave, Duncan and Jonnie @ 8:50 am

Yo, Duncan here, checking in from Africa.   I wanted to quickly share my story of learning photography in case there is someone else out there with “learning photography” on their list.

For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to learn how to take photos, and I’m not talking about the old point and shoot, I wanted to learn the art and mechanics of photography.

On my last trip to Africa I thought it was about time, so I borrowed a friends SLR camera and reached out to a photography friend of mine for some quick lessons. It turned out to be a lot easier then I thought - once I got the basic principles down it was just about playing around and finding out what looked good.

Anyways, I was really glad I did it - if you’ve been thinking about it I would say go for it.
