For those of you just tuning in… this project started 4 years ago, long before any partnerships with MTV (read about it here). In the season premiere, we managed to sneak into the playboy mansion and help a school get a computer. Next Monday, we go after #41: Make a Toast at a Stranger’s Wedding and meet an artist who hasn’t seen his son in 17 yrs. Everybody asks. Here is the answer:

The name comes from a poem written 150 years ago by a man named Matthew Arnold. It was assigned to me in English class in 2006 (see the History of TBL) and struck us because it articulated in a way that we couldn’t the feelings we had of being disconnected or out-of-touch with ourselves and with the world. You ever get that? Here are the lines that stood out:
But often, in the world’s most crowded streets, But often, in the din of strife, There rises an unspeakable desire After the knowledge of our buried life; A thirst to spend our fire and restless force In tracking out our true, original course;
Undeniably one of the hardest list items to cross off. We tried in Vegas in 2007 but were denied. We tried in Dallas this summer and were gracefully turned away. We ended up having to get pretty creative… and along the way we met Sam, an artist that hadn’t seen his son in 17 years. See how it all pans out, next Monday at 10p/9c on MTV. And yes, that is Duncan with the bride.
We never expected this Episode to see the light of day. It’s one of the more “Hollywood” items on the list and required a ridiculous plan to attempt to cross off. When Playboy found out what happened, they didn’t want us to air it. Our last hope was a hand-written note to Hugh Hefner. It took us 4 hours to write and with it we sent a copy of the Episode you’ll see tonight. It took a while to get a response, but eventually he said yes. Tune in at 10 PM on MTV.

My name is megan and i wanted to thank you. i know that you will probably never read this… but ill try anyways. A few months ago i was watching mtv and your commercial for the buried life came on. I was inspired by it… but mostly so grateful that someone else understood whats really important…
You see last year i was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 17. It wasnt until then i realized how very important every day was. and i just wished that everyone would realize that the best time to do the things you want to do is now. continue readingJust found this on an old hard drive. Back in 2006, when we started The Buried Life, Duncan and I (Jonnie) were working on a bunch of little backyard film things with our friends. Duncan started OA Projects, I was working on early Bikini stuff and one day we ended up teaming-up to try and make this ghetto music video for our friend.
For one scene we needed someone to do a backflip, so I called Dave (who I knew from our bboy days in highschool) and asked him to come downtown and meet us. He showed up 2 hours later in a baggy letterman jacket and loafers. It was pouring rain so we asked if everything would be ok with the flip. He brushed us off and said it’s all good. Then.. wait for it..
The people have spoken. Now we wait for the results (likely coming tomorrow).
In the meantime let your friends know that if we can get 75,000 followers on the TBL Facebook Page, MTV’s people said they’d help us build another soccer camp in Gulu, Uganda with Duncan’s charity project OA Projects!

While running around Toronto talking to reporters about #53 on the list (“Make A Badass TV Show”) we had the chance to cross off #38 (“Kiss the Stanley Cup”)… again. The first time was way back in 2006, when The Buried Life first got cooked up out of the back of a garage in Victoria.
The Series Premiere of The Buried Life is on Monday, January 18th @ 10 PM PST on MTV USA & Worldwide — 11 days and counting.

This one goes out to Jean Claude who’s been repping Buried Life in Rwanda for 2 years. Jean Claude’s dream is to make music. If he’s not working to support his brothers and sisters, he’s singing. If anyone out there controls the airwaves, let’s get one of his songs on the radio.
